AKM Magnetic Encoder IC, AK877x
 |
| |
The AKM (Asahi) A8775 and AK8776 are low cost magnetic encoder IC’s that can provide digital outputs corresponding to the direction and number of poles from a rotating magnet. The two parts offer two different functional capabilities. The AK8775 provides two quadrature 90° phased outputs and the AK8776 provides both a 2x count of pole pairs and a CW and CCW direction signal. Frequency of the AK8775 is DC to 125Hz and the AK8776 is DC to 250Hz. Both are in a very small four pin SOP package (2.1mm x 2.1mm). Operating voltage is 1.6V to 5.5V and the current drain is approximately 90µA. The parts are unique in that operation is independent of ring magnet pole pitch provided the field strength at the device exceeds ±1.5mT (15G) during the rotation cycle. Applications include jog dial devices, incremental pulse encoders, rotational direction sensors, and speed-direction sensors.
